February 8th - Stitches

Jack fell at school yesterday and hit his mouth. His mouth was cut inside (top and bottom) and he had a cut about an inch long on the outside right below his lip. Ronny went and grabbed Jack from school and I met them both at the emergency room. I got the call from the school at 3:41pm and we didn't get home until 6 hours later. They ended up giving Jack an IV and sedating him so they could give him some stitches.

The drugs they use to sedate kids are related to LSD and Jack was tripping a bit. I held his hand while they put him under but sat across the room while they stitched him up. (I thought passing out next to my injured son’s gurney would be bad form.) Ronny stood above him and Jack started saying "Daaaddddyyy" really slowly like he was in a dream state. “Daaddddyyy” A bald nurse stood next to Ronny for a while and after he left, Jack said, "Oooone Daaadddddyyy." I guess when the bald nurse was there, Jack thought he saw two Daddies.

The doctor put 4 stitches on the outside of Jack’s lip and 1 stitch on the inside. As soon as Jack started coming around, he started moving his tongue over the inside stitch, which was gone in a matter of minutes.

This morning we went to see a pediatric dentist to get his teeth checked out. Jack wasn't very happy to be examined or get x-rays, but we made it through alright. His teeth were just fine. Then it was back to school for Jack. He was so excited to see his teachers and the other kids, he was practically hyperventilating. We sat with him for a bit while he ate lunch and then told him we have to go back to work. As we were walking out the door, he shouted, "Bye guys!"
